Below: working mocks of every UI surface — the popup, the full Manager, and the side panel. Click a tab to make it active, click Suspend / Pin / Mute / Lock and watch all three views update at once. State is shared, just like in the real extension.

Every tab capability, finally in one place.

TabSmarter wraps the entire chrome.tabs, chrome.tabGroups, and chrome.sessions APIs in a UI that doesn't make you click ten things to do one.

🔎

Fuzzy search across windows

One keystroke (/) opens a quick-switcher palette over every open tab in every window. Type, hit enter.

💤

Smart suspender

Auto-discards idle tabs to free RAM, with a domain whitelist and never-suspend rules for pinned, audible, and form-filled tabs.

🗂️

Auto-grouping

Tabs of the same domain quietly collect themselves into colored groups once you cross your chosen threshold. Or do it manually.

💾

Sessions & auto-backup

Save any window as a named workspace — or let TabSmarter quietly back it up every 15 minutes. Restore exactly as it was, groups and all.

🪞

Dedupe in one click

Find every duplicate tab across every window. Keep the active one, kill the rest. Or invert the rule — your choice.

🎨

TabTint highlighting

The active tab gets a coral ring; the rest dim into the background. Subtle, configurable, and surprisingly hard to live without.

…plus per-tab notes, scroll memory, sleep timers, screenshots, zoom control, bulk actions, drag-drop between windows, history search, bookmark integration, and keyboard shortcuts for everything. See the full list →

Power features

The grid above covers the basics. Below: the things that make TabSmarter different from "Chrome with extra steps."

🔒
NEW

Tab lock (no close)

Lock any tab and it can't be accidentally closed — if it is, TabSmarter immediately reopens it at the same window, index, and group.

🔑
NEW

Password lock + overlay

Drop a blurred lock screen over any tab or whole domain. Per-lock passwords, salted SHA-256, stored only locally.

Casual deterrent — not vault-grade.
🛡️
NEW

Focus Mode

One toggle stashes every non-pinned, non-locked tab into a session, leaving you with just the one you're working on. Toggle off to get them back exactly where they were.

NEW

Tab Snooze

Close a tab now, reopen it in 1 hour, 3 hours, tomorrow at 9 AM, or any custom time. Survives browser restart.

✈️
NEW

Share tab collection

Generate a self-contained data: URL listing your selected tabs. Recipient clicks it, gets a polished page with "Open all". Zero server.

📅
NEW

Activity timeline

Searchable rolling log of which tabs you opened and closed, capped at the last 1,000 events. All local — clear it whenever.

💾
NEW

Auto-save on exit

Snapshots your window state every few seconds. If you crash or quit without saving, your last session is one click away on next startup.

🔄
NEW

Auto-refresh, surfaced

Reload any tab on a schedule. Was buried in the right-click menu — now it's a top-level button in the popup with presets and an active indicator.

From install to organized in 60 seconds.

No setup wizard. No account creation. Pin the icon, hit a shortcut, you're done.

Install

Add TabSmarter from the Chrome Web Store. Pin the toolbar icon so the popup is one click away.

Configure

Set your suspend timeout, accent color, and auto-group threshold. Or skip this — the defaults are tuned for the kitchen-sink experience.

Streamline workflows

Alt+T opens the manager. Alt+S suspends. Alt+D dedupes. / searches. Use it.

What TabSmarter does doesn't do.

We are very deliberate about scope. The list of features TabSmarter has is long; the list of things it refuses to do is also a feature.

  • No AI auto-grouping or "smart" suggestions you didn't ask for
  • No cloud sync of your browsing data
  • No analytics, telemetry, or "anonymous usage stats"
  • No account, login, or email required to use it
  • No paywall — all features are free, all the time
  • No newtab page hijacking or default-search redirection
  • No ads, no affiliate links, no sponsored "recommended tabs"
  • No security guarantees beyond casual deterrence (lock features included)
